AMANDO CATTOLICA

Chi non vive a Cattolica difficilmente comprende lo stato d’animo di chi si appresta ad osservare il paesaggio, l’emozione che ci coglie guardando le meraviglie che rappresentano angoli caratteristici della nostra Città, l’infinita bellezza del suo mare, l’ordine delle sue spiagge, lo spumeggiante infrangersi delle onde sulle coloratissime scogliere. Non riesce ad immaginare uno splendido tramonto del sole che si tuffa nell’acqua, tracciando all’orizzonte un’infinita linea di fuoco; o lo spettacolo del mattino impreziosito dal volo dei gabbiani che si rincorrono disegnando figure immaginarie attorno alle barche che terminata una nottata di pesca ritornano in porto seguite da una lunga traccia di schiuma bianca.

 Emozioni, sensazioni, immagini raccolte con maestria che il tempo non può cancellare, che si possono vedere dal vivo osservando un’alba ed un tramonto, un angolo caratteristico del nostro paesaggio, una spiaggia d’estate, ed una marina d’inverno. Un paesaggio meraviglioso che ritroviamo nelle opere fotografiche di Antonio Barbieri che ferma le immagini, che annulla il tempo, che trasforma in arte vera la prepotente bellezza dei nostri luoghi. Tutto questo è amore Amore per la bellezza Amore per il paesaggio Amore per i nostri luoghi Amore per Cattolica e sentimenti profondi che mi ritrovo nell’anima come una dolce armonia, e che sono felice di condividere con ogni cattolichino, e con ogni persona che ama Cattolica.

The fifth edition year 2010-2011. 2010 -2011 Publication entitled: "Looks" Expression of Feeling. Reminding the professor Guido Paolucci Ageop founder, has received major national and international praise and feedback.

The Cultural-photographic project "loving Cattolica", a social commitment. To prevent a child becomes ill with cancer or leukemia he needs to receive the best care possible, but above all he needs to have close to whether, in every moment, his family, he has the right to play in a serene and cheerful environment, he has the right to continue his education, he has the right and need to think that cancer will one day be eradicated.

An hospital is always a sad, especially when children are being hospitalized. In these situations it is essential to try to help these children to live in as good as possible. A galleon sailing in a beautiful blue sea or a colorful rainbow in the sky can enliven the walls of the Department of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology, Policlinico S. Orsola-Malpighi, designs that give with their simplicity a smile to children hospitalized in the structure. Thanks to Prof. Guido Paolucci, the unit was opened in 1967, becoming in the years one of the most advanced treatment and research of childhood cancer. With the support of Professor Paolucci and some parents, in 1982 the AGEOP (Parents Association of Pediatric Hematology Oncology) was established, an association that give support to sick children and their parents. A child even if sick, more than ever need to live in a serene place with his parents, aplace that does not ever forget the face of a child. The work of many volunteers who donate a bit of their time to these children is admirable. Entertainment, logistics, planning tours, promotion and communication are just some of the many activities of the assistance association. Often, families of sick people are left alone with their tragedy, too often adequate places lack to help these parents. This is why associations such as AGEOP should continue through the external promotion and volunteers to continue their work. Con questo nuovo libro fotografico prosegue il progetto “Amando Cattolica” e con la VI Edizione, dal titolo “Attimi, EMOZIONI NEL TEMPO INFINITO…sulle tracce di Guglielmo Marconi”, Antonio Barbieri è , ancora una volta, riuscito a catturare, nelle sue fotografie, l’anima più intima di Cattolica e dei paesaggi vicini. L’attaccamento alla propria terra, la passione e la sensibilità artistica sono evidenziate in queste immagini che mostrano con chiarezza la trasformazione nel tempo di questo territorio, facendone riaffiorare con emozioni intese l’essenza più vera. L’obiettivo dell’artista si allarga su scorci suggestivi di altre città italiane, cogliendone particolari che ben delineano la ricchezza artistica, culturale architettonica della nostra Italia. Il mio particolare apprezzamento va ancora una volta rivolto a questo lavoro, alla dedizione particolare e scrupolosa con cui Antonio Barbieri ha saputo mostrate la genuinità e la semplicità di un territorio in continua evoluzione ma sempre attento a rinnovare la propria cultura dell’accoglienza. Tra la moltitudine di città interessate da questo nuovo percorso fotografico,emerge un prezioso itinerario che collega le diverse città in cui Guglielmo Marconi ha vissuto la sua vita. Un nuovo viaggio fotografico, tra cui immagini che rendono omaggio al grande inventore italiano Guglielmo Marconi, padre della radio e Premio Nobel per la fisica nel 1909. Bolognese di nascita, Marconi passò molto del suo tempo nella sua casa di Cattolica. Chissà cosa penserebbe oggi, affacciato alla finestra di Villa Marconi, delle persone in spiaggia collegate a internet con computer e cellulari wireless, persone in contatto con il mondo ventiquattro ore al giorno. Su quella stessa spiaggia dove lui ha passeggiato e guardato il mare immerso nei suoi pensieri e nei suoi esperimenti. Forse tutta questa comunicazione l’avrebbe fatto sorridere, lui che fu il padre della comunicazione con telegrafia senza fili. Di una cosa però siamo sicuri, sicuramente affacciato alla finestra della sua camera, avrebbe rivolto lo sguardo all’Adriatico e avrebbe atteso uno di quei meravigliosi tramonti di Cattolica, in cui il sole diventa una palla di fuoco che scompare lentamente all’orizzonte. Uno spettacolo di colori che soltanto Lei può regalare. Among the multitude of cities affected by this new photographic journey, emerges a valuable route that connects all the different cities where Guglielmo Marconi has lived his life. A new photographic journey, including images that pay homage to the great Italian inventor Guglielmo Marconi, father of the radio and Nobel Prize for the Physics in 1909. Bologna-born, Marconi spent a lot of his time in his house in Catholic. Who knows what would he think now, looking out the window of Villa Marconi, people in beach connected to internet with computer and wireless phones, people in contact with the world twenty-four hours a day. On that same beach where he walked and watched the sea immersed in his thoughts in his experiments. This communication would perhaps have made him smile, him that he was the father of the communication with telegraphy without threads. Of a thing however we are sure, surely leaned out to the window of his room, he would have turned the look to the Adriatic and he would have attended one of that marvelous sunsets of Catholic, in which the sun becomes a ball of fire that slowly disappears on the horizon.  L’Elettra di Guglielmo Marconi

Gabriele D’Annunzio definì l’Elettra come una candida nave che naviga nel miracolo ed anima i silenzi, parole che rappresentano perfettamente la nave-laboratorio di Guglielmo Marconi e l’importanza che ha avuto per i suoi esperimenti di radiofonia. L’elegante Yacht, costruito per ordine dell’Arciduca d’Austria Carlo Stefano, venne varato il 27 marzo 1904 con il nome di Rovenska. Venduto poi a diversi proprietari, venne militarizzato a seguito dello scoppio della Prima Guerra Mondiale divenendo una nave da pattugliamento e di scorta in servizio nel Canale della Manica. Terminata la grande guerra, lo yacht in disarmo presso il porto di Southampton, fu acquistato ad un’asta da Guglielmo Marconi per 21.000 sterline. Era il 1919, iniziava così il legame indissolubile tra lo scienziato e la “sua” Elettra.Trasferita a La Spezia e trasformata in una speciale nave-laboratorio, divenne in breve tempo il centro degli esperimenti condotti da Marconi. Il 27 Ottobre 1921 venne ufficialmente iscritta con il nome di Elettra al compartimento marittimo di Genova con numero di matricola 956. L’imbarcazione era perfetta sia per lavorare in tranquillità, lontano quindi da distrazioni, sia perché possedeva la notevole caratteristica di potersi spostare velocemente risolvendo così i problemi legati alla portata e agli effetti direzionali delle radiocomunicazioni. A bordo di Elettra Marconi svolse importanti esperimenti, quello più memorabile avvenne nel 1930 quando ormeggiato al Porto di Genova, accese le luci del Municipio di Sidney, in Australia. Erano le 11.03, la semplice pressione di un tasto aveva realizzato l’impossibile, inviare degli impulsi attraverso l’etere a 14.000 miglia di distanza. Il tasto è conservato al Museo Marittimo di Trieste. Dopo la morte di Marconi avvenuta il 20 Luglio 1937, Elettra venne acquistata dal Ministero delle Poste e Telecomunicazioni e portata a Trieste durante la guerra per preservarla dagli attacchi nemici. Purtroppo lo sforzo fu vano perché nel 1943 lo yacht venne requisito dalle truppe tedesche e trasformato in unità militare; si riuscì soltanto a far sbarcare le apparecchiature utilizzate dallo scienziato e a custodirle in alcune casse. Nel gennaio del 1944, in pattugliamento lungo le coste della Dalmazia, rimase incagliata vicino a Zara e venne bombarda dai cacciabombardieri alleati. Una parte dello scafo rimase emerso portando al saccheggiamento di tutto il suo contenuto. In base al trattato di pace, il relitto divenne proprietà della Repubblica Iugoslava e, dopo insistenti richieste, nel 1962 Elettra venne restituita all’Italia. Il Ministero delle Poste e Telecomunicazioni decise di avviare un progetto di ristrutturazione dell’imbarcazione ma la spesa da affrontare era enorme e i fondi a disposizione non lo permisero. Iniziarono dieci anni di accese polemiche che non portarono a niente mentre la ruggine corrodeva quello che restava del relitto. Con il passare del tempo i preventivi di spesa aumentavano e i pezzi dell’Elettra che si potevano salvare, erano rimasti pochi. Non si trattava più di un restauro ma della costruzione di una nuova barca; venne così decisa la sua demolizione. Il 18 Aprile 1977 lo scafo venne frazionato e le varie parti inviate in diverse città italiane. La prua è esposta all'AREA Science Park di Trieste mentre la poppa e l'elica sono invece esposte all'entrata del Centro di Telecomunicazioni di Telespazio, nel Fucino. Nel 2002 è stata varata una nave militare di supporto operativo battezzata con il nome Elettra per ricordare la barca di Marconi. Dotata di sofisticate apparecchiature tecnologiche, è entrata in servizio nel 2003. Sarebbe stato meraviglioso se questo splendido yacht fosse stato restaurato e trasformato in una nave-museo, un luogo affollato da visitatori desiderosi di conoscere e capire il forte legame che c’è stato fra Elettra e Guglielmo Marconi. Guglielmo Marconi’s Elettra

Gabriele D’Annunzio defined the Elettra as a candid ship sailing in the miracle and making silences come alive, words representing to perfection Guglielmo Marconi’s laboratory-ship and the importance it had for his radiofonic experiments . The elegant yacht, built on the order of the Archduke of Austria Carlo Stefano, was launched the 27th of May 1904 named as Rovenska. Sold to various owners, it was militarized after the First World War outbreak becoming a patrolling and escort ship serving in the English Channel . After the Great war ended, the disarmed yacht docked in Southampton , was bought at an auction by Guglielmo Marconi for 21,000 pounds. It was 1919 when the indissoluble bond between the scientist and “his” Elettra began. Transferred to La Spezia and transformed in a special laboratory-ship, it became in short time Marconi’s experiments centre. The 27th of October 1921 it was officially inscribed with the name of Elettra in Genova maritime compartment with the matriculation number 956. The boat was perfect to work in peace, far from distractions, because it owned the remarkable feature to be capable of moving fast thus solving radiocommunication problems linked to capacity and to directional effects. On board of Elettra Marconi accomplished numerous experiments, the most memorable one in 1930 when, docked in Genova harbor, turned on the lights in Sidney city hall, in . It was 11:03am when a simple switch pression made the impossible possible, sending impulses through the ether 14,000 miles far away. The switch is conserved in Trieste Maritime Museum . After Marconi died the 20th of July 1937, Elettra was bought by the Italian Mail and Telecommunications Ministry and brought to Trieste during the war to preserve it from enemy’s attacks. Unfortunately it was a wild-goose chase because in 1943 the yacht was requisitioned by German troops and transformed in a military unit; it was only possible to land the equipment used by the scientist and to keep them in some crates. In the January of 1944, patrolling along Dalmatia coasts it remained aground near Zara and it was bombed by the fighter bombers of the Alliance . Part of the hull remained surfaced leading to the looting of all its content. Based on the peace treaty, the wreck became property of the Yugoslav Republic and, after insistent requests, in 1962 Elettra was returned to . The Mail and Telecommunications Ministry decided to start a renovation project for the ship, but the expense to cope with was enormous and the available funds did not permit the project. So a decade of heated discussions coming to naught became, while rust corroded what was left of the wreck. With the passage of time the expense estimations were increasing and only a few pieces remained that could be recovered from the Elettra. It was no more about renovating but it was about the construction of a completely new boat; was then decided its demolition. The 18th of April 1977 the haul was fractioned and all the various parts were sent in different Italian cities. The prow is now exhibited in Trieste AREA Science Park whereas the stern and the propeller are exhibited at the entrance of Telespazio Centre for Telecommunications in Fucino area. In 2002 a new military ship was launched for operative support and it was baptized with the name of Elettra in honour of Marconi’s boat. Equipped with sophisticated technological devices, it came into service in 2003. It would have been marvelous if this fantastic yacht could have been renovated and transformed in a museum-ship, a place crowded by visitors longing for knowing and understanding the strong bond once present between Elettra and Guglielmo Marconi.Text by Alessandra Fabri
